Default DnD online to be FREE!

http://wargamer.com/article/2710/dun...o-free-to-play

Well now we finally have a challenger for GW players with FREE online pay and no monthly fee. Selling things in their store JUST LIKE GW does on the side for added income.

Now if other MMO's follow suit like this GW will be in BIG trouble. Anarchy Online already offers this as well and with an expansion pak included.

The FREE market grows long live free to play online gaming.

Idk. I just read that there are premium packs in the game. If I know the franchise very well (which I kind of do anyways) This will entice many players to buy it for a fee, a monthly. These packs could make their holders have a critical advantage over anyone else. I'm not sure if I'm down with that. Besides, the game mechanics seem more complicated than my liking and so far I haven't found any valuable guides, or even any armor or weapon galleries. Unlike GW where the wikis give you necessary guides and galleries of all the weapons and armor in the game. I'm a bit pessimistic about buying this one...

GW has done the F2P + micro transactions right in my opinion. The things that you pay for are only cosmetic (Stylist), or dont limit your effectiveness in game (Storage), or can be unlocked through normall gameplay (PvP unlock pack).

If DDO had this system then it could be a contender with GW. But from what i have gathered about the game, those who use the micro transactions have an advantage over those who dont.

DND:Stormreach is a dead game, they may be making it a F2P game in hope to get more sales (and then micro transactions), which could bring in more money than their current subscribers.

Noobs ... stop mixing b2p with f2p. Guild Wars never was and never will be f2p. If it was f2p you wouldn't spend a penny to open account that won't disappear after 10 hours or 14 days (whichever comes faster) and you would have a cash shop with premium packages, costumes, reskins, pets and god knows what else. Btw, I doubt you would want to play that game as f2p user. I put a random guess without premium you would suck even in pvp, just like you do over Fury.

Noob... A F2P game does not require a cash shop with "premium packages, costumes, reskins, pets and god knows what else." I could name you pleanty of F2P games that do not feature a cash shop.

Please get your facts right before you try and shit talk me.

Shut up, troll. GW is F2P. You buy it once and you play it for free for 4+ years. And it has microtranslations, buyable pets, skill packs, reskins and character renamers. So please, before spouting ignorance, hit yourself with a pallet.

You accrue Turbine Points by completing Quests and can buy those things quite easily without spending a single cent. Really, the only time you should ever have to pay real money is if you want those things instantly (alts basically) or want some convenience (teleportation wands). The system is a lot better than your typical cash shop honestly, and you can't buy any good equipment, all the items you can buy are worse than the top end items but save you time from gearing up if you're doing alts.

I'll be on Argo when it goes live because this is one of the most unique and fun MMOs there is, just not enough content to pay monthly for as a hardcore gamer. That may change if they get enough people playing now, though, and with the new Module.

I was not sure how easy it would be to afford the stuff with ingame only turbine points, but if it is reasonable like you say I will 100% be playing it up!

After reading the info on their page it seemed to me you only get very limited (and finite) amount of Turbine Points. After that you need to buy them.

It's connected to their Favor System atm, so eventually you do top out on one character I believe, but you do get quite a good amount of free TP on one character. You can keep rerolling characters and doing the quests to get more free TP if you're inclined.

You're not too restricted in F2P though, you can still get to Level 20 as a free player, you're just not able to do some quests in the more fancy areas. You're still able to get all the top loot and do top level content, you just lack some convenience items, some quest areas, WF/Drow/Monk, it's not as bad as some systems, and considering how unique and fun the actual game is, I don't mind it at all. It's one of the best MMOs I've played for sure.

I was thinking I could try out D&D later but I just wonder how much of an impact not paying for anything has on the free aspect of it.

If you can pay to gain a functional/mechanical advantage over players unwilling or unable to spend money for in game benefits, I will skip it.

Games that are Money>Skill can rot. I just got done leaving a game like that and I won't never, ever play another one. The only thing you should be able to buy with money is vanity. Never mechanical benefits.

I will be looking into this as I enjoy most D&D video games. But when I hear "premium" I generally walk away.

The only real benefit you can get atm is a small XP boost (but leveling is quick anyways so it's only useful for saving time on alts really), gear (that isn't as good as the good gear, so only useful for gearing alts), and a teleportation wand (but this is just a time saver for a game where everything isn't too far away as is). There's absolutely nothing in the store that gives you a skill advantage over another player and there never will be, just stuff that helps you if you're making alts + vanity items + adventure packs really.

Locking off classes/areas is a sure-fire way of attracting new players.

There are 20 levels (months and months) worth of free content, that's a sure-fire way of attracting new players. The amount of locked out content is very minimal and completely optional, it is not end game content, just side questing areas.
